'Supermax' Pitcher Plant
Description: Sarracenia ‘Supermax’ is a stunning clone of the copper top pitcher plant. Growing to gargantuan proportions, spring leaves can top 36 inches with lids over 5 inches in diameter. Its vein-less leaves are copper-hued, maturing to chartreuse. This is a must-have for serious pitcher plant gardeners!
When our nursery was established, we purchased several groups of trumpet pitcher plant seedlings from small nurseries in North Carolina. Choice seedlings were given temporary names and evaluated for vigor, size and beauty. S. ‘Supermax’ was circulated as S. flava ‘jl407’ during the evaluation process.
Culture: Plant in full sun to part shade outdoors. Use peat moss and perlite in a very large planter and keep it wet. In a bog garden, use a mixture of peat moss and sand. It loses its leaves in the winter. Cold hardy to 20F in a pot and 0F in the ground.
