"Okee Giant" Hooded Pitcher Plant
"Okee Giant" or sarracenia minor var. okeefenokeensis, is the largest hooded pitcher plant. It oversized leaves tower over its beautiful yellow flower.
Hooded pitcher plants are distinguished by its remarkable trapping mechanism. It has windows on the back of the leaves to trick flying bugs. It eats them for fertilizer. Yum!
Plant in full sun to part shade outdoors. Use peat moss in a very large planter and keep it wet. In a bog garden, use a mixture of peat moss and sand. It loses its leaves in the winter. Cold hardy to 20F in a pot and 0F in the ground.
