Kew Gardens Pitcher Plant
'Kew Gardens' pitcher plant is a fast-growing medium height hybrid of unknown ancestry. It is the darkest pitcher plant we have ever seen! The leaves emerge maroon. By late fall, the mature leaves are nearly black.
The undulating lids are reminiscent of rubra with heavy venation throughout. Leaves are usually 18 inches tall with 2.5 inch wide hoods. Its thick stand of black leaves will stand out in any collection.
Plant in full sun to part shade outdoors. Use peat moss in a very large planter and keep it wet. In a bog garden, use a mixture of peat moss and sand. It loses its leaves in the winter. Cold hardy to 20F in a pot and 0F in the ground.
